It doesn't seem "safe" if Windows blows away the multiboot MBR that FreeBSD so carefully made! Windows overwriting the MBR seems to be the reason people recommend loading Windows before loading FreeBSD, which I do. I just never realized that this problem would come back to bite me when I added another disk drive.

Fixing Multiboot
When PC manufacturers first became aware of the Y2K problem, they started to deal with it by fixing the BIOS of the PC, so that it could detect the bug AFTER it If other operating systems are run on the same system (ie multiboot), the problem MAY STILL EXIST. Unix Unix uses drivers that bypass the BIOS,

When setting up a multiboot system, you have the choice of doing it Microsoft's way or everyone else's way. The two methods are not equivalent. With third-party managers, each OS can be fully installed within its own standalone partition, and "fixing" one wouldn't have to touch the other partitions.

I accept the lack of multiboot as a design issue, whether I like it or not. It would be nice to be able to save your NT configuration to disk, though. Then you could multiboot by using the configurator floppy. As it is, I don't want to have to worry about fixing the ethernet address and setting up autoboot and all

I'm running SETI@HOME on a multiboot/multiuser W98/NT system, any idea how to make sure that it always uses the same workunit? One aspect seems to be that the setihome.ini file has blank entries for the paths, but fixing that doesn't cure it so I suspect there are registry entries needing fixed.

I chose the built-in way to multiboot because I don't want to 'hide' any drives, as they all contain data that I can access from any booted OS. With third-party managers, each OS can be fully installed within its own standalone partition, and "fixing" one wouldn't have to touch the other partitions.

You don't have to reinstall XP, you have to fix the system files on the C: drive. You need to boot from the XP CD and run the Recovery Console (first repair option). Then copy the ntldr and ntdetect.com files from \i386 on the CD to the root of C:. Run "fixboot" to redo the boot sector on C:.
